Some Frequently Asked Questions About Fascias, Soffit and Gutters Installations

Q. Will you need to erect scaffolding?
A. To gain access to most areas we have our own equipment that we will move around the house to carry out the work. If there are areas where it is unsafe to use this then scaffolding will need to be erected.
Q. Which is the Fascia board?
A. The fascia board is the board that supports the first course of roof tiles and the board that the gutter is fixed to.
Q. Which is the soffit board?
A. The soffit board is the board that is installed between the fascia board and the house wall.
Q. What is a barge board?
A. The barge boards are the boards that support the tiles on a gable end.
Q. What is a replacement fascia board (or structural fascia board)?
A. This is a fascia board that is generally over 15mm thick and is substantial enough to support the first course of roof tiles and also provide a good fixing for gutters.
Q. Can you fix the fascia boards to my old timber fascia?
A. Yes we are able to install "capping fascia" this is a 10mm thick board and is purely decorative as opposed to replacement or structural. Capping fascia needs the existing fascia to be sound in order to support the first course of roof tiles and the gutter system.
Q. Do vents have to be fitted to soffits? They look so ugly?
A. The building regulations require that the eaves are ventilated. We do this by installing discrete continuous vents above the fascias.
Q. How can a gutter system be maintenance free when moss and debris will always need to be cleaned out?
A. Many of our guttering systems can be fitted with covers to resolve this problem.
