What is a Green Roof?

A living green roof is made up of a number of different layers of material that turn a dull roof to a bright, vibrant, living area creating a wildlife habitat, attracting insects, birds, butterflies & bees. A green roof system will also contribute to the thermal efficiency of a roof.

A green roof can be created on many types of roof structures; Roof Technology specialises in installing green roofs onto structures with a single ply membrane as the waterproofing layer.

Green roof build-up

Gravel stops are welded into place to create the perimeter washed stone edging. Above the water proofing membrane, a protection sheet is laid, the aqua drain moisture retention layer is laid to the area where sedum is required, 50mm of growing medium is then raked into place, and the sedum blanket is laid. Finally, washed river stone is put in place to create the border.

Why Choose A Green Flat Roof

A green roof transforms an unused flat or dull roof space into a thriving, eco-friendly habitat that supports wildlife such as birds, bees, and butterflies. Beyond its visual appeal, a green roof offers practical benefits – improving thermal efficiency, reducing rainwater runoff, and helping to regulate building temperatures throughout the year.

Built using specialist layers including waterproofing membranes, drainage, and a sedum growing blanket, it provides a sustainable, low-maintenance way to enhance both the appearance and environmental performance of a building.
